Have you ever wondered why HEPA-rated filters are pleated? Well, wonder no more, we're here to explain. It's to prevent them from ever being completely clogged. Even if you laid a sheet of paper over it, the raised edges would still let a little air through. And this is important, because without that air flow, your vacuum motor would quickly overheat and become a little fireball of anxiousness, not to mention, your vacuum wouldn't do its job. Now, while there's never going to be a complete air flow block, it's equally important that you swap your filters out on a regular basis to ensure your vacuum operates at peak efficiency. With regular use, you should swap your filter out every four to six months.
